Introduction

Creating games for Supercell

Brawl Stars is an online multiplayer arena battle game, played by hundreds of millions worldwide. Supercell wanted to surprise and entertain their fans by creating a little easter egg hidden inside of the Brawl Stars game. But we didn’t just make one hidden game, we made 3!

We created the little easter egg games together with W+K Portland. Taking inspiration out from the character 8-Bit, we brought him along through alternate universes of the ‘what could have beens’ of the Brawl Stars game.

The first level, inspired by Space Invaders and the lore of Brawl Stars

Level 1 - 32 bit Laser

8-Bit’s dream of being the all mighty & capable of flying, with powerful weapons. In this level, you fight various figures with a wink to some old concept art of older iterations of what would later become Brawl Stars.

The second level, inspired by the game characters and crazy worlds inside of brawl stars

Level 2 - 16 bit Slug Fest

In a reverse of the real game, everyone is slower than 8-Bit. The character's lure is that 8-Bit is a tank when it comes to HP, but very slow. But here, it’s the opposite.

The third level, inspired by old platformer games and speedrunning

Level 3 - 32 bit

The final level, hidden by jumping out of the screen in the previous level end-state, leaves 8-Bit running after the kid versions of his opponents. The same kids that always pushed his buttons. With a final boss fight, we finish the trippy cutscenes some nice vague nonsense to keep the crowds busy.
